Germination: Starting Your Girl Scout Cookies Grow

  • Use the paper towel method (between two damp towels, covered by plates)
  • Warm area: 70–75°F
  • Once taproot = ½ inch → transplant root-down ½ inch deep

⚠️ Do not trap paper towels in sealed plastic → causes rot risk

Week 1: Seedling

our GSC strain are now sprouted and settling into their first pots. Keep light intensity soft and humidity high so the young roots can establish themselves without stress. You’ll see tiny cotyledons first, followed by the first true leaves reaching up toward the light. Give minimal water around the root zone and steady airflow to strengthen stems – this week is all about stability and gentle growth.

  • Soft light, stable humidity
  • Avoid overwatering
  • Build stem strength with airflow

Week 2: Early Veg + Optional LST

The plant starts to gain confidence now, producing bigger fan leaves and thickening its stem. You can begin shaping the plant using light low-stress training by bending the main stem outward to encourage bushy growth. Keep feedings very light as roots expand. The goal is to set the structure early so you get tons of future bud sites.

  • Begin structure: gentle LST improves canopy
  • Introduce light veg nutrients
Low stress training cannabis

Week 3: Veg Expansion

Growth accelerates as multiple new branches form and the plant reaches 6–10 inches tall. This is a smart moment to top above the 4th–5th node if you want a wider, yield-boosting canopy. GSC stays compact, so giving each branch its own space now ensures even light coverage later. Keep humidity around 55–60% and let the plant fill in nicely before the big transition.

  • Strong branching, great point to top
  • Keep humidity around 55–60%

Week 4: Pre-Flower Pre

Your GSC is now sturdy, leafy, and ready for flower. Finish any structural training and gently remove lower growth that won’t receive light. You’ll also notice the first signs of pre-flowers forming at the nodes – a nice preview of what’s coming. Reduce humidity slightly to prepare for the stretch stage and get your flowering nutrients ready.

  • Final shaping / pruning
  • Flip to flower next week

Week 5: Flower Begins

Switch to 12/12 light and watch the plant stretch, often doubling in height by the end of the week. White pistils appear at every top, marking the start of real bud formation. The aroma becomes noticeable: a sweet but loud mix of cookie dough and diesel.

  • Switch to 12/12
  • Aroma starts to develop: sweet + earthy diesel

Week 6: Bud Sites + Frost

Bud sites expand quickly this week, stacking along every branch and showing early frost on sugar leaves. Keep strong airflow and reduce humidity to 45–50% to support resin development. Aromas become richer and more earthy-sweet.

  • Trichomes spreading fast
  • Manage RH around 45%

Week 7–9: Weight & Terpenes Surge

This is prime time. The terpenes explode with creamy sweetness and lemon-diesel funk. Keep a close eye on humidity as dense indica buds are prone to moisture buildup. Support top branches if necessary, they’re filling out fast.

  • Buds swell and stack
  • Potential for purple hues with cooler nights
  • Keep airflow high to prevent bud rot

Week 10: Final Flush & Ripeness

  • Check trichomes: mostly cloudy with some amber
  • Flush 5–7 days before harvest
  • Ideal finishing conditions:
    • Temp: 65–70°F
    • Humidity: 35–40%

📅 Harvest: Late September to Early October

Harvest & Curing

  • Dry: 60°F | 55% RH | 10–14 days
  • Cure in jars: burp daily first week → then twice/week
  • End result: Thick dessert-sweet buds with euphoric chill

Gary Payton

Michael ClintMarch 27, 2024

I’ve been growing weed for 30+ years, and to be honest, it’s quite difficult to surprise me. After a few decades of facing different strains, changing growing conditions, and solving whatever problem you could possibly think of, by then, I believe I’ve seen it all in cannabis growing.

Gary Payton defied every single one of my expectations.
The plant thrived, growing to an impressive 6 feet in what seemed like a blink of an eye. It quickly filled out with buds and displayed better smell each day, showing solid proof of superior genetics. The buds were tight, aromatic, and a source of immense pride, surpassing the outcome of many of my previous endeavors.

Hypno Seeds with their Gary Payton strain has won my complete admiration and loyalty. Outstanding genetics in this plant have truly turned what I always thought of to be an experiment with negligible expectations into one of the most satisfying grows of my long career.

Looking forward, my excitement for the next growing season is unparalleled. I can’t wait to see how much I can take these strains, especially with the attention that Gary Payton really does deserve right from the start.

Blackberry Kush

Starting my latest grow, I decided to try out some Blackberry Kush from Hypno… I planted her on a whim alongside my other favorites. Hypno Seeds said it had to be a powerful plant with rich, fruity scents… Seeing is believing. She developed purplish hues and dense resin coated buds and quickly took center stage in my garden and produced much more than expected. The buds are tightly packed, literally bursting with the heady aroma. The yield? Very impressive for her conditions…
