How to Grow Gelonade Strain (2026 Grow Diary)

Gelonade is a refreshing, citrus-forward sativa-leaning strain that blends zesty lemon and diesel with a touch of honey sweetness. Its profile is bright, aromatic, and instantly recognizable during flower. With genetics from Lemon Tree and Gelato 41, Gelonade grows vigorous, stretches nicely, and produces frosty buds with excellent terpene expression. If you want to grow Gelonade strain, expect an energetic, happy, and sociable plant that responds well to training and rewards attention with quality yields and memorable aroma.

Why Grow Gelonade

Gelonade is great for growers who want a punchy sativa experience without huge height or long flower time. It finishes quickly, produces strong terpene aromas, and forms dense, resinous buds. The plant reacts well to training, especially low stress training and light topping, which boosts yields and improves light penetration. If you want a strain that brings bright citrus flavor, social effects, and manageable indoor size, Gelonade delivers consistently.

Setup and Growing Conditions

Indoor Growing

Gelonade thrives in a 3×3 or 4×4 grow tent with a 300 to 480 W LED. Use 5–7 gallon pots with a well draining medium like coco or light soil.
Key indoor notes

  • Target PPFD of 450 to 600 in veg and 900 to 1100 in flower
  • Maintain strong airflow throughout the canopy
  • Use light defoliation to open crowded areas
  • Avoid heavy nitrogen late in veg to preserve terpene brightness
  • Keep temperatures stable to support sativa growth

Outdoor Growing

Outdoors, Gelonade prefers warm, sunny climates with steady winds.
Key outdoor notes

  • Choose a location with full sun exposure
  • Use rich, airy soil with organic amendments
  • Stake or trellis early to support lateral growth
  • Harvest late September to avoid humidity risks
  • Good choice for growers with limited outdoor height space

Week 1–2: Germination & Seedling

Gelonade sprouts with compact vigor and forms broad sativa-leaning leaves early.
What to do

  • Keep medium lightly moist, not soaked
  • Gentle airflow strengthens stems
  • Use low intensity light at first
  • Maintain humidity around 65 percent
Pro Tip: Warm root zones promote faster, healthier seedlings

Week 3: Early Vegetative

Growth ramps up and side branches start forming.
What to do

  • Increase light to ~50–60 percent intensity
  • Start feeding at 0.4–0.6 EC
  • Keep airflow even across lower growth
  • Avoid overwatering — sativas dislike soggy roots
Common mistake: Feeding too heavy too soon reduces terpene brightness

Week 4: Veg Expansion & Early Training

This is prime week to begin shaping Gelonade.
What to do

  • Top above fourth or fifth node to encourage bushiness
  • Start low stress training to spread branches
  • Increase nutrients gradually to ~0.8–1.2 EC
  • Remove a few shaded leaves
Pro Tip: A flat, wide canopy equals more bud sites later

Week 5–6: Pre-Flower & Stretch

Once flipped to 12/12, expect a noticeable stretch.
What to do

  • Lower humidity to ~50 percent
  • Add trellis net or stakes to support upward growth
  • Increase EC to ~1.2–1.3 if plants show no signs of stress
  • Keep lights strong to control vertical stretch
Tip: Gelonade can increase height by 15–30 percent

Week 7–8: Flowering & Bud Formation

Aromas of diesel, honey, and lemon start to fill the space.
What to do

  • Maintain temps between 68–78 F
  • Keep humidity around 45–50 percent
  • Add a potassium boost during week 8
  • Gentle defoliation if needed for air flow
  • Aim for PPFD near 900–1100
Pro Tip: Use oscillating fans to keep air moving around dense bud sites

Week 9: Ripening & Resin Push

Buds finish forming and resin ramps up.
What to do

  • Lower temperature slightly for terpene preservation
  • Reduce nitrogen and flush if desired
  • Drop humidity to 40–45 percent
  • Watch trichomes for milky cloudiness and some amber
Result: tight, resinous flowers with strong aroma and balanced effects

Harvest & Curing

Harvest at end of September when trichomes hit your desired maturity.
What to do

  • Dry in a space at ~60–65 F and 55 percent humidity for 10–14 days
  • Cure in jars for at least 3–6 weeks, burping daily for the first week
Grower Tip: Extended curing enhances citrus and honey notes and smooths the smoke

Gary Payton

Michael ClintMarch 27, 2024

I’ve been growing weed for 30+ years, and to be honest, it’s quite difficult to surprise me. After a few decades of facing different strains, changing growing conditions, and solving whatever problem you could possibly think of, by then, I believe I’ve seen it all in cannabis growing.

Gary Payton defied every single one of my expectations.
The plant thrived, growing to an impressive 6 feet in what seemed like a blink of an eye. It quickly filled out with buds and displayed better smell each day, showing solid proof of superior genetics. The buds were tight, aromatic, and a source of immense pride, surpassing the outcome of many of my previous endeavors.

Hypno Seeds with their Gary Payton strain has won my complete admiration and loyalty. Outstanding genetics in this plant have truly turned what I always thought of to be an experiment with negligible expectations into one of the most satisfying grows of my long career.

Looking forward, my excitement for the next growing season is unparalleled. I can’t wait to see how much I can take these strains, especially with the attention that Gary Payton really does deserve right from the start.

Blackberry Kush

WhildGreeneryMarch 28, 2024

Starting my latest grow, I decided to try out some Blackberry Kush from Hypno… I planted her on a whim alongside my other favorites. Hypno Seeds said it had to be a powerful plant with rich, fruity scents… Seeing is believing. She developed purplish hues and dense resin coated buds and quickly took center stage in my garden and produced much more than expected. The buds are tightly packed, literally bursting with the heady aroma. The yield? Very impressive for her conditions…
